Starting with 2 Nights at Okapuka Lodge

11 Days / 10 Nights

Day 1: Arrival – Okapuka Lodge

Arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport. Meet & greet by your guide. Transfer to Okapuka Lodge (Gondwana Collection).

Afternoon game drive on the Okapuka property (arranged by Sabonazsafaris Inc.). Settle in, enjoy the lodge facilities, and have a short orientation with your guide.

Overnight: Okapuka Lodge (Night 1 of 2)

Day 2: Okapuka Lodge – Full Day

Full day at Okapuka Lodge. Sabonazsafaris Inc. arranges the main activities available at the lodge (additional game drive, nature walk, or other lodge activities suitable for families). Relaxed pace with time for the swimming pool and lodge grounds. Ideal for recovering from the international flight and allowing the children to settle.

Overnight: Okapuka Lodge (Night 2 of 2)

Day 3: Okapuka → Swakopmund

After breakfast, depart with your guide toward the coast (approximately 5–5.5 hours). Scenic drive with stops as needed. Arrive in Swakopmund in the afternoon. Short orientation of the town with your guide.

Day 4: Swakopmund – Catamaran & Sandwich Harbour

Full coastal day arranged by Sabonazsafaris Inc.:

•  Morning Catamaran cruise in Walvis Bay (dolphins, seals, flamingos – excellent for families)

•  Lunch at Sandwich Harbour / Sandwich Beach (arranged picnic or beach lunch)

•  Afternoon return to Swakopmund

Your guide accompanies the family throughout the day.

Day 5: Swakopmund → Damaraland

Drive inland and north into Damaraland (approximately 5–6 hours). Your guide shares information about the changing landscape and local culture. Arrive at the lodge in the afternoon and relax.

Day 6: Damaraland Exploration

Full day exploring with your guide. Visit Twyfelfontein rock engravings (UNESCO site), Organ Pipes and Burnt Mountain. The pace is kept suitable for children. Optional short nature drive in the afternoon.

Day 7: Damaraland → Etosha (South)

Drive toward Etosha National Park (approximately 4.5–5.5 hours). Arrive at the southern side of the park. Afternoon game drive with your guide (park fees and arrangements handled by Sabonazsafaris Inc.). Focus on waterholes and easy wildlife viewing.

Overnight: Etosha Safari Camp or Etosha Safari Lodge (Gondwana Collection)

Day 8: Full Day in Etosha

Drive toward Etosha National Park (approximately 4.5–5.5 hours). Arrive at the southern side of the park. Afternoon game drive with your guide (park fees and arrangements handled by Sabonazsafaris Inc). Focus on waterholes and easy wildlife viewing.

Overnight: Etosha Safari Camp or Etosha Safari Lodge (Gondwana Collection)

Day 9: Etosha → Otjiwarongo (Cheetah Conservation)

Morning game drive or leisurely departure from Etosha. Drive south to the Otjiwarongo area (approximately 3–3.5 hours).

Afternoon visit to the Cheetah Conservation project (pre-booked by Sabonazsafaris Inc). Guided educational experience focused on cheetahs and conservation – excellent for families.

Overnight: Mid-range lodge near Otjiwarongo / Okonjima area

Meals: Dinner & Breakfast

Day 10: Otjiwarongo → Windhoek (Okapuka)

Morning at leisure or short additional activity at the cheetah project (if available). Drive back toward Windhoek (approximately 3 hours). Arrive at Okapuka Lodge in the afternoon. Time to relax by the pool. Farewell dinner.

After breakfast, transfer to Hosea Kutako International Airport for your departure flight.

Day 1: Arrival in Windhoek

Arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport. Collect your pre-arranged 4×4 vehicle and drive approximately 45 minutes into Windhoek. Settle in, stock up on basic supplies, and rest after your flight.

Overnight: Mid-range hotel or guesthouse in Windhoek

Day 2: Windhoek → Sossusvlei / Namib Desert

Drive southwest through the Khomas Highlands into the Namib Desert (approximately 340–360 km, 4.5–5.5 hours). Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon and enjoy your first desert sundowner.

Day 3: Full Day at Sossusvlei & Deadvlei

Early start to enter Namib-Naukluft National Park. Visit the iconic red dunes of Sossusvlei, climb Dune 45, and explore the surreal white clay pan of Deadvlei with its ancient camel-thorn trees. Return to the lodge for a relaxed afternoon by the pool.

Day 4: Sossusvlei → Swakopmund

Drive north via Solitaire toward the Atlantic coast (approximately 350–380 km, 5–6 hours). Arrive in the charming coastal town of Swakopmund in the afternoon. Time to explore the town or simply relax.

Day 5: Free Day in Swakopmund

Full free day on the coast. Optional activities include a catamaran cruise in Walvis Bay (dolphins, seals and flamingos), a Living Desert tour, or a Sandwich Harbour excursion. Alternatively, enjoy the town’s cafés, museums and relaxed atmosphere at your own pace.

Day 6: Swakopmund → Damaraland

Drive inland and north into the dramatic landscapes of Damaraland (approximately 350–400 km, 5–6 hours). The scenery changes to rocky mountains, ancient formations and wide open plains. Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon.

Days 5–6 – Etosha National Park

Full days of game drives centred on waterholes. Evening floodlit waterhole viewing. Focus on predator-prey dynamics and rhino conservation. Overnight inside or adjacent to the park.

Day 7 – Caprivi / Zambezi Region

Travel east into the lush riverine landscapes of the Caprivi Strip. Afternoon activity depending on timing. Overnight at a riverside lodge.

Day 8: Damaraland → Etosha National Park (South)

Drive east/northeast toward Etosha National Park (approximately 300–350 km, 4.5–5.5 hours). Arrive at the southern side of the park near Anderson Gate. Afternoon game drive possible if time allows, or simply relax at the lodge.

Overnight: Etosha Safari Camp or Etosha Safari Lodge (Gondwana Collection)

Day 9: Full Day Game Viewing in Etosha

Full day of self-drive game viewing inside Etosha National Park. Focus on the productive waterholes where elephants, giraffes, zebras, springbok, lions and other wildlife congregate. Return to the lodge in the late afternoon.

Day 10: Second Full Day in Etosha

Another full day exploring different sections of the park or returning to productive waterholes. Excellent opportunities for wildlife photography and relaxed game viewing at your own pace.

Day 11: Etosha → Windhoek Area

Overnight: Mid-range accommodation in or near Windhoek

Day 12: Windhoek – Buffer / Free Day

A flexible buffer day. Use it to rest, explore Windhoek’s craft markets and city sights, or simply prepare for departure. This day also provides flexibility in case of any schedule adjustments during the trip.

Why This Itinerary

This carefully paced journey showcases the dramatic diversity of Southern Africa while staying true to Sabonazsafaris Inc values: authentic experiences, meaningful conservation insight, and responsible travel.

You will move from the ancient red dunes of the Namib Desert through Etosha’s wildlife-rich waterholes, into the watery wilderness of the Okavango and Chobe, and finish at the thunder of Victoria Falls.

Each destination is given enough time to settle in and observe properly. Local guides share knowledge of ecology, conservation challenges, and community partnerships. The focus remains on quality wildlife viewing, small-group intimacy, and leaving a positive footprint.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive Windhoek, Namibia

Airport transfer and welcome. Orientation briefing covering sustainable travel practices, safari etiquette, and the conservation focus of the journey. Overnight in Windhoek.

Days 2–3 – Namib Desert & Sossusvlei

Travel into the world’s oldest desert. Early access to the towering red dunes, walk into Deadvlei, and explore Sesriem Canyon. Guided discussion on desert ecology and water conservation. Overnight near Sesriem.

Day 4 – Journey toward Etosha

Scenic drive north, with possible stops for desert-adapted wildlife or landscapes. Overnight on the edge of Etosha National Park.

Days 5–6 – Etosha National Park

Full days of game drives centred on waterholes. Evening floodlit waterhole viewing. Focus on predator-prey dynamics and rhino conservation. Overnight inside or adjacent to the park.

Day 7 – Caprivi / Zambezi Region

Day 12 – Victoria Falls

Transfer to Victoria Falls. Guided walk of the main viewpoints. Optional activities available (helicopter flight, Zambezi sunset cruise, or community visit). Farewell dinner. Overnight in Victoria Falls town.

Morning at leisure or optional activity, followed by airport transfer.
